Topics: Overview of AI tools in visual arts and filmmaking; key concepts in Midjourney and Runway.
Hands-on: Introduction to Midjourney interface, basic prompt crafting for AI-generated images.
Topics: Crafting effective prompts for storytelling; using style, composition, and themes.
Hands-on: Students create a set of images around a narrative concept.
Topics: Advanced prompt techniques; enhancing image cohesion.
Hands-on: Guided session to create a storyboard sequence using Midjourney images.
Topics: Overview of Runway; basic animation techniques, including keyframing and camera movement.
Hands-on: Importing images from Midjourney and creating simple animation in Runway.
Topics: Layering, fine-tuning animations, and character motion in Runway.
Hands-on: Students animate character actions and simple transitions for dynamic storytelling.
Topics: Sequencing animated clips and creating smooth transitions.
Hands-on: Students piece together animated sequences for a draft short film.
Topics: Importing footage, trimming, basic transitions, and layering in Premiere.
Hands-on: Assembling sequences from Runway with additional editing.
Topics: Basics of sound design, adding ambience, effects, and voiceovers.
Hands-on: Adding sound layers to match scenes and enhance storytelling.
Topics: Fine-tuning edits, color grading, and rendering the final film.
Hands-on: Students complete final edits and apply finishing touches.
Topics: Group film screening; constructive critique and project feedback.
Hands-on: Viewing and discussing each student’s completed short film.

Minimum requirements
We welcome and encourage applications from students with a variety of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
To study this short course, you must:
Be over 18
Have a good understanding of written and spoken English (we recommend a B2 level)
Feel comfortable using a computer.

We can provide remote access to our workstations during teaching time. Due to availability restrictions, we highly advise you to have your own set up at home to study in your own time.

A strong internet connection
Cloud storage or external hard drive to back up your work, 1TB+ recommended
A three-button mouse or graphics tablet. Please note, the Wacom Intuos Pro range of tablets have the best support for our remote desktop software and provide the best experience.
A computer microphone (and optionally a webcam)
Note-taking materials.

We offer payment plan options for all courses. Following an initial deposit at registration stage, your chosen payment plan will break down your remaining fees into up to three instalments, to be paid before the end of the course.

We pack a lot into each class of our evening courses, to be able to offer a learning option that is more flexible and fits in with your personal and work life. This means that contact time with your tutors will be intense learning and hands on. To make the most of this course, we recommend that you spend at least 10 hours working on your projects or practising your new skills in your own time each week.
