Course overview
Unreal Engine 5 offers capabilities that can transform the way architectural visualisation is approached and executed. This new online course is created specifically for architects, architectural students or people working in an art role within construction who want to add Unreal Engine to their arsenal.
You’ll get a hands-on introduction to Unreal Engine 5 - exploring real-time world building tools. We start with the basics, like navigating the software, working with objects, and importing 3D models. Then, you’ll learn how to create materials and textures, including how to make them look realistic and animate them.
Unreal Engine is known as a game engine, but it has continuously pushed the boundaries of what is possible in a virtual environment. The release of Unreal Engine 5 has opened new doors for architecture and design and offers tools to bring visualisations to life.
Why choose this course
Shaun Foster (MFA) is the course leader. Shaun is a Professor of 3D Digital Design, with over 20 years of experience in 3D graphics and interactive educational design.

Blueprints for Materials - learn how to control materials in Blueprint. Animate properties by sending data from the level editor. Optimize performance by avoiding draw calls. Set scalar and vector parameters on hundreds of meshes efficiently, without dynamic material instances.
Blueprints for Lighting – There are many ways to automate your workflow and create assets that you can change directly in your game engine, making your workflow faster and more flexible. In Unreal Engine, you use Blueprints for visual / node-based scripting. In this module you’ll learn how to automate and control lighting right from the interface.
Blueprints for Animation - Animate 3D objects in your level to create realistic looking scenes. Any object can be animated without the need to set up the Level sequencer. These Blueprints are easy to set up yet very flexible and powerful, allowing for complex animations.
Blueprints for Worldbuilding - Creating worlds in Unreal Engine can be time-consuming. Using easy-to-set-up Blueprints can save time by streamlining the development process and allowing for rapid prototyping.
