Four Tips for Generating Motion Graphics Ideas

Coming up with new creative material is an important part of success in the creative industries, and motion graphics is no exception. Motion Graphics is a large and growing part of the animation industry and encompasses a range of skills including design, animation and technology. In his new tutorial, Escape Studios Motion Graphics tutor Adam Bennett outlines how to stay on top of the game in his new tutorial Four Tips for Generating Motion Graphics Ideas.
Tip One: Mind Map
Compared to popular belief, there isn't a magic ideas tab that can just be turned on. Mind mapping is a useful way to get started, as almost everyone starts with a blank page.
Tip Two: Sketch
During research, things might come up that would work well in the animation. The sketches don't have to be amazing, as they are usually not shared with clients.
Tip Three: Let It Brew
For the ideas process, let your ideas brew if possible. Let your unconscious brain do some work for you and sleep over it for a night or two before returning to your project. Try not to rush this part as it won't lend itself to creative results but rather factor in some breathing room between research and design.
Tip Four: Always Be Collecting
Holding on to random experiments, various images and animations can help to work more time efficient as it can serve as a point of reference or to spark some new inspiration.
We are fortunate to have a great motion graphics team at Escape Studios. From September 2024, Escape Studios is running a new MA in Motion Graphics.
